Musicians hire Melanie Howe when they want more than accompaniment. Attitude and expression are important factors to be considered in the entertainment industry. Melanie's experience in music performance, dance performance, and artistic expression gives her an upper hand in promoting an exciting and memorable performance for the musicians she accompanies.
From a young age, Melanie has been an expressive artist. On merely a competitive basis she started her career as a pianist at the age of 9 in hopes to 'out do' her older brother. That passion floated between instruments including clarinet, french horn, trumpet, contrabass, guitar, ukulele until it finally landed in percussion. She developed a love for percussion towards the end of high school and went on to study at the University of Tennessee as a Percussion Performance major. She used her vast range of instrumental experience to her advantage in understanding musical differences in a band.
Building bands and coordinating people became a major frustration for Melanie which she felt was negatively affecting her art. In 2009 Siren, one of her bands, faded out with a frustrating impact. Months later Melanie decided she would become an accompanist for various artists rather than focus on coordinating other musicians.
From blues to rock, electronica to jazz, Melanie is able to fill the percussive needs for artists in Knoxville, Nashville, Sarasota, even New York city. She brings a unique flair to the stage as a stylish and sensible woman who understands the basis of her wide repertoire of musical style. Melanie is typically hired as a drum set player, hand drummer, multi-percussionist, and back up singer.
..In short, she looks the part, plays the part, acts the part and most importantly is the part.
