The Powergoats are an Ottawa rock outfit delivering a strong range of musical dynamics, great songwriting with lyrical flare and high-energy stage shows. Their latest album 'Ruby Headlights' was recorded at Raven Street Studio and released on August 8, 2014. Their first music video, 'News To Me' was released in July 2014 followed by their second, 'Needed to Miss You' in November 2014. A northern Ontario tour with fellow Ottawa band 'The Superlative' is booked for July 2015, and a summer/fall tour of southern Ontario is in the planning stages.
Defining The Powergoats' sound is like filling a cup at a soft drink fountain with a splash of Bowie, a squirt of The Allman Brothers, a dollop of Blue Rodeo, then discretely spiked with The Rolling Stones when no one's watching, The lineup includes songwriter/front-man Jamie Douglas, multi-instrumentalist Andrew Burns on bass and keyboards, Wes Reed on drums and Brian Simms on lead guitar. Filling out the lineup on special occasions are Scott Irving on keyboards and Deedee Butters & Michelle Richards on backing vocals.
The Powergoats happened completely by accident nearly six years ago. Multi-instrumental vocalist Jamie had spent the previous decade writing and performing in film, radio, television while touring across North America (and St. Maarten) for BigTime Productions (including a 2003 Canadian Forces Show Tour in the Persian Gulf). In 2008 he recorded a demo of original tunes done is a Stonesy style as a lark with some hobbyist friends. One of them sent the demo to The Ottawa Bluesfest Collective... and somehow it was chosen to be put in 11 local stores. Tickled and intrigued, Jamie decided to form an earnest band from this opportunity; he sketched out the familiar logo, and named the Project The Powergoats.
Since 2009 they have released three more CDs and played over one hundred shows at top Ottawa venues as well as the 2010 and 2011 Ottawa Bluesfest. They've shared stages with Rise Against, The Lost Fingers, The Free Press, The Joe Crown Trio, PAINT, Ty Hall, Hearts&Mines, Bluestone, Cold Capital, Arms of the Girl, Mosley, The Superlative, Three Times Lucky, Owl Eyes Project, Tribe Royal, Torn Beloved and Hello Hello, among others. The Powergoats have enjoyed radio support from CBC Radio One, Live 88.5 FM, CHUO FM, CHIP 101.7 FM and 101.9 DAWG FM.
