Behind the scenes, it’s been an eventful year for the members of Some Army. In January, the NC Triangle-based band issued their first official release: a short-run, lathe-cut 7” record that garnered positive reviews and earned the group a spot on Paste Magazine’s list of 12 North Carolina Bands You Should Listen To Now. However, a handful of factors kept live performances to a minimum in the first half of 2012 – recording, several members’ tours with other projects, songwriter Russell Baggett’s wedding, and the departure of original drummer Cameron Weeks. With fall fast-approaching, the band is gearing up for a much more visible second half of the year. In September, Some Army will join an impressive lineup at the Hopscotch Music Festival before touring much of the Southeast behind a new, self-titled EP.

Some Army is the culmination of roughly a year of on-and-off recording in the familiar garage studio where Baggett spends a lot of his days and nights. It documents the band’s first year of existence, revealing a group of musicians looking for new sounds by pulling together some influences that shaped their past projects while shedding others altogether. Stylistically, Some Army falls somewhere between whispery folk, shoegaze, and the fuzzy sparkle of indie-pop. Sometimes, it’s all of these things at once.

Some Army will be released on CD and digitally through Bandcamp in mid-September, while two tracks from the EP (“Business Gee” & “We’ve Been Lucky”) will also appear on a new limited-edition 7”. Their September tour will take Some Army through most major markets in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, ending with an official EP release show on September 22nd at Local 506 in Chapel Hill with Triangle favorites TOW3RS and Gray Young in support.
