Profit was born in South St. Louis and at a young age he became very interested in many kinds of music. He loved Motown and classic rock but was most impressed by Micheal Jackson and became a huge fan after he bought the "Thriller" album. As time progressed, his mother bought an old organ at a garage sale and Profit began playing it daily until he could play most songs by ear. Profit took some basic lessons in the guitar, piano, drums, and trombone but couldn't quite find his niche. After listening to NWA for the first time he became very interested in Hip Hop. Soon after he was interested in all West Coast material and then developed an interest in East Coast material.
Around this time Profit began to get in trouble in school. He was expelled from all Catholic schools for passing notes to a friend about killing his 6th grade teacher and taking a Greyhound to California. After many other instances in city schools his mother moved to the county and enrolled him in county schools for his senior year. He couldn't quite fit in while in this atmosphere and began eating lunch alone and skipping school often. On weekends he would get a ride into the city without a definite place to stay and would sleep anywhere he could lay his head with only a backpack and some extra clothes. Through out this time he became more interested in hip hop and battle cyphers but never attempted to actually rap.
Once he graduated, he learned his girlfriend was pregnant. Months later she had a miscarriage. Shortly after, the fighting intensified and resulted in their inevitable breakup. As a result, he became very depressed and lost his college grant because of a low GPA. After all of this he picked up a pen and wrote his first rap about this hardship and quickly knew he had a gift. The gift quickly turned into a daily ritual of freestyling where he began to excel much quicker than his peers. At this time he also began to hustle any way he could to get money and gave himself the name "Profit". This was chosen because of the combination of hustling and his views on religion. "Profit" was just another financial hustle at this point, which is why that spelling was chosen. He also liked the fact that the word itself was a double entendre (prophet or profit) which is how he carefully puts together each lyric.
At 21 Profit could now enter bars where "Open mics" where taking place. One place that stood out was Monday nights at the High Pointe Cafe. At the very second he started freestyling he was shown love by the crowd and the other local artists. He took his talent to several battling contests. Through winning he earned more respect from local artists and the underground hip hop scene in STL. He recorded a minimal amount of music with some small record labels including Pretty Boy Records, Sub Zero Records, and VIP. Due to the state of Hip Hop in STL, he could never get things to take off like he expected, so he commited more time to hustling.
In June of 2003, he was blessed by the birth of his first child, a beautiful daughter. He immediately fell in love with fatherhood and quit everything including rap to focus on it. After 4 years of caring for his daughter on a daily basis her mother took his child away from him and took Profit to court. This was a devastating blow. He had to visit her school daily and his mother's home on weekends when the child was allowed. He would spend 30 minutes commuting and 4 hours before work each day and never missed a weekend when his daughter was at his mother's.
During his spare time he took to alcoholism as a way to cope with the pain of missing his daughter. One night after many hours of drinking he ended up in a situation where he was shot once in the stomach. This brush with death resulted in 2 inches of intestines removed, a catheter for one month, a bullet lodged in his body, and 165 staples. He would also be involved in 2 surgeries 2 years later including bullet removal and 3 hernia repairs; reopening the scar from the shooting even larger. He had to see through the entire custody battle while recovering from the physical abuse his body had taken in the incident. Later, at the same time he had the scheduled surgeries, he went to trial for a felony possession case from that same fateful night. He won the case in late 2008 and then had to quit drinking for an entire year to control an alcohol problem he had developed over these years.
After a long hiatus Profit has begun acquiring equipment and learning to use it to get back to his love for the music. After all of his hardships he has come back to the lyrics as an outlet for his aggression. He has been back in cyphers in STL even though they are few and far between but resharpened his freestyle sword to an even greater perfection. Profit has rekindled his passion for music with intense punchlines and heartfelt, aggressive delivery. He believes music is life and in this genre of music your life depicts what you can actually rap and speak about. Profit, through sheer determination, has now acquired the capabilities to make the music himself. Not just make the music "by himself" but to make his music "him". As a solo artist, Profit gears up to make a return to hip hop. Although he is making a return he will actually be making his solo music for the first time.
