Kangaroo Knife Fight / Bio

"Kangaroo Knife Fight's new self-titled EP is a soul-searching romp . . . of reverbed out guitars, gospelesque vocals, and flowing melodies reminiscent of Sly and the Family Stone and Kings of Leon."* The band's first release officially dropped on December 6, 2014. Local radio immediately placed it on the best local music of 2014 (89.3fm) and best recordings of 2014 (90.1fm) lists. Due credit must be given to the masterful mixing of Noah Shain, the man who cut the first solo release by Skrillex as well as produced Dead Sara's 2012 hit "Weatherman." Kangaroo Knife Fight's own secret sauce, however, lies in its emotion. Nathan Cardiff said it best, "[t]he band bleeds genuine emotion in their pop sound."** Genuine emotion in pop music is a difficult balancing act. Kangaroo Knife Fight pulls it off by blending Anthony Avis's full blooded Australian soul vocals with hard hitting American pop rock. Prior to coming together to form Kangaroo Knife Fight, Gus Rechtien (bass), Bandon Skeens (guitar) and Ian O'Connell (drums) had individually or collectively shared the stage with artists such as Motley Crew, All-American Rejects, Fall Out Boy, Coheed & Cambria, Rob Thomas, Gavin Degraw, Candlebox, 311, Capital Cities and many others. The veteran musicianship joined with the impassioned lead vocals of Avis provide a legitimately fresh perspective in indie rock. In fact the December 2014 issue of Jamsphere Magazine went so far as to declare that "Anthony Avis, was not just the best vocalist I had heard this year, . . . the entire Kangaroo Knife Fight project, without exclusion, was the best damn indie rock experience I have heard all year!"***
