Born and raised in the Boston area Marcus began his saxophone studies at age 11 and pursued music seriously after winning performance awards with the IAJE Massachusetts high school competitions, district and state. At the University of Miami (FL) Marcus held the Constance Weldon Scholarship where he expanded his studies into clarinet, flute, and bass clarinet. While at UMiami he had the opportunity to share the stage with Kevin Mahogany, Alex Norris and Lisanne Lyons, and studied saxophone with Gary Keller (Frank Sinatra) Mike Brignola (Woody Herman) Tyler Kuebler (Airmen of Note) and Troy Roberts (James Morrison)
After graduating from UMiami with a Bachelor of Music Degree in jazz saxophone performance Marcus worked with Carnival Cruise Line playing production shows. He then moved to Philadelphia in the fall of 2007. After moving to the Philadelphia area Marcus freelanced with many groups bringing him the chance to play events at locations such as World Cafe Live, The Note, The River Street Jazz Cafe, The National Constitution Center, Avelthorpe Manor, and the Philadelphia Clef Club where he had the opportunity to play with Philadelphia sax legend Bootsie Barnes.
Beginning in 2010, Marcus worked as a tenor saxophonist for Royal Caribbean Cruise Line for 3 years while based in Boston, where he has worked with such recording artists as Brian Culbertson, Dave Koz, Larry Graham (Sly & The Family Stone), Sheila E (Prince), The Happenings, Merrill Osmond (The Osmonds) and Jon 'Bowzer' Bauman (Sha Na Na). Marcus has worked as the temporary Musical Director, conducting and leading a nine piece jazz and contemporary music ensemble and supervising the work schedules and performances of 7 other ensembles (16 musicians) working inside the cruise ship hotel. He led jazz and R&B oriented performances with the featured vocalists.
November 2013 to January 2015 he performed with the band Phunk Shui playing the Bellini Lounge at the Venetian Macao Resort Hotel located in Macao, China. Also in Macau Marcus performed Rod Stewart hit 'Da Ya Think I'm Sexy' sharing the stage with the Rod Experience, made of former members of The Rod Stewart Group , Carmine Appice (Jeff Beck), Danny Johnson (Steppenwolf), Jimmy Crespo (Aerosmith) Alan St. John (Alice Cooper) Rick St. James (Fleetwood Mac) and Kenny Aaronson (Billy Idol) for 5 nights at the Bellini Lounge in the Venetian Macao Resort Hotel.
