PONO create musical recordings blending punk, folk, blues, and electronika. Formed in the late 20th century, PONO is the brainchild of Ellard. The music has been described as a "sonic musical collage" and "electronic, folk, terrorism" stepping slightly outside of popular musical constructs while still remaining fairly accessible.
Ellard collaborates with many different musicians and also likes to capture found sounds and integrate them into Pono's records which gives the music an organic feel. "I like to let the universe into my music which includes ambient noise, nature, and other people," says Ellard. Wildly eclectic but still retaining a haunting and pop splendor, Pono continues to delve into places few artists go.
There are four PONO records: Mao Tse-tung's Bar Mitzvah was 13 years, 13 months and 13 days before Gandhi's Circumcision (1999), Aisle 3 (2001), Indie Rock to the Blues (2004), and R. Mutt 2017 (2012).
