His name is John Wesley Wilson Jr., but for performance purposes he goes by his stage name JD Wesley (John David Wesley). The name John David (JD) is a tribute to both his father (John Sr., living) and his grandfather (David; deceased). He has been singing publicly for 28+ yrs. He started his journey at the age of four within his father’s church Bethlehem Baptist in the Charleston, SC area.
After graduating High School in June of 2000, he decided to attend college in Charlotte, NC (Johnson C. Smith University). He marched and played the trumpet on the International Institution of Sound (IIOS) Marching Band, under the direction of Mr. Duncan C. Gray. As well he sang 1st Tenor with the world renowned Concert Choir under the direction of Dr. Bruce A. Thompson (Director of Choral Activities). His major was Sacred Music with a concentration in Vocal Performance.
After College JD got together with former colleagues and help start a band currently known as "The Company" (www.nocnocproductions.com). In January 2007 JD co-wrote along with the band manager Hanock Hickman a song entitled "A Song for Music" on their debut album "Daybreak"!
JD has performed on stage with various Gospel artist such as; Tamala and David Mann (From the Tyler Perry Hit Plays & TV Series), Patrick Love, Kathy Taylor Brown, and Donald Lawrence. As well he has worked with R&B Sensation Meryl Carter, Lee Charm, Hip Hop’s rising star Clap Cognac, and R&B/Soul Diva Melonie Fiona to name a few. JD is also currently singing background for the 90's boy band SOLO and is very excited about the release of the group’s new EP this summer 2015. His affiliations with the group SOLO afforded him the opportunity to sing happy birthday for the funk diva herself Chaka Khan in March of 2013. He is currently preparing to play the role of Louie “Satchmo” Armstrong in his forth Off-Broadway theater production entitled “Angie Jackson The Musical” by: Vincent Kee (http://www.keemulti-mediastudio.net/). Angie Jackson is an awe inspiring story about a young orphan named Angie, whom has the opportunity of meeting some of the greatest legends Known to the entertainment industry. This production is slated for a sneak peek showing at the PlayRoom Theater (151 W 47th Street, New York, NY) May 9th, 2015.
His networking has generated connections with Major and Independent Labels such as Universal/Motown/SRC Records, Def Jam, & Good Thyme Click/Maxa Music Group! He has embarked upon numerous Collaborations with different Hip Hop/R&B artist in the USA as well as France, Africa, and Germany. Currently JD is preparing to launch his own Entertainment Management Company, which is designed to help and promote young aspiring entertainers. JD Wesley is a man of good will and strong faith as well he believes that with hard work his dreams will come true!
