Alan Bay is a singer/songwriter, composer, guitarist from Marisol, Oriente, a small coastal village in the South of Buenos Aires Province, Argentina.
He started playing guitar when he was 15 and began writing songs at 16/17. During the following 7 years, he focused mostly on studying to be a teacher of English and a translator though he kept writing more music. In 2010, he started recording instrumentals at home, 5 of those instrumentals are part of an EP called "Two Seas, One Sea", which was released in 2015 (you can listen to it on his bandcamp site). The five tracks were recorded between 2012 and 2013. Alan has not finished recording a full length instrumental album with other group of tracks he's been working on in the process. Parallely, from March 2011 to January 2013, he only played electric guitar in a local folk duo/trio project called IRIS.
Lots of stories emerged into songs in 2014, it was Alan Bay's comeback as a singer/songwriter. This time, he had to show his stories to the world. There were two gigs in Marisol and Oriente with his friend Mauricio Chavez (percussion), an opportunity to show how his songs worked with the audience. "Muses" has been his first release, an EP containing 5 acoustic songs he recorded during October 2014 in Tres Arroyos at Estudio Kualquiera. Since then, he's been touring a lot in Buenos Aires, playing at many of the open mics and festivals within the Argentinian folk scene and also performing at radios and web channels like Balcony TV. Whenever touring in Buenos Aires, Alan and his other sidekicks experimented musicians Hermano Sol (guitar, banjo, vocals) and Omar Rod (tenor sax) form the Alan Bay Trio. Moreover. Alan Bay has also been touring around his region: bars, cultural centres and festivals in Bahía Blanca, Monte Hermoso (two times at the Monte Hermoso Blues and Jazz Festival), Coronel Dorrego, Tres Arroyos, Claromecó and Mar del Plata.
The musician from Marisol is preparing a full length album with many guests from the Argentinian folk scene and other genres, and also some guests from the USA, UK, Czech Republic, Russia and other places. Recording should start by March/April 2017.
Style: All through the years, Alan has adopted a very special fingerpicking technique, combining from Mark Knopfler, Lindsay Buckingham, Chris Rea and John Martyn's technique as well as different open tunings from British and Irish folk. Besides he is equipped with a multi-effect pedal using it during instrumental passages.
