This is a home grown band out of San Francisco's Bay Area with influences ranging from Gentleman to Billie Holiday to The Budos Band and back again. This big, hearty and diverse group will have you shaking your money maker before you can say "Oola Rocksteady".
As a self managed and self produced act, Oola Rocksteady has been nothing short of a welcomed challenge to organize 6-12 band mates to put their heads together and create something that incorporates all of their very different backgrounds. Started as a 4 piece in 2007 by Michael Crays in Martinez, they began performing at downtown bars and quickly developed a local reputation for a raging good time.
As the band slowly gained momentum and members, the sound developed into something you can only describe as their own. Mike’s socially driven, flow-like lyrics eventually evolved into ukulele backed poetic melodies that truly grasp their dynamic range. When Annessa stepped in as a backup singer in 2009, the ever shifting group changed once again for the better. Proving to be more of a front (wo)man, Annessa teamed up with Jeff Littlefield (Sax) to create some of the fan favorites such as Tequila Blanco and Deep Blue Sea. In 2011, Mark Ramirez replaced the talented Nikki Danger and pushed Oola Rocksteady to the next level, defining their sound with vivacious effects and guitar melting riffs.
From notable venues around the bay, festivals to backyard parties and free shows for charity, the big hearted Oola Rocksteady plays anytime and anywhere simply because they love it. Moving crowds big and small with their sax heavy, exuberant songs keeps them elevated and dedicated. Although they have plenty of songs about smoking the herb and partying, their catchy, knee dropping vibrations bring smiles out in Oolagains of all ages.
