Iconoclast initially started as a death metal band by producer Donovan Cox, but was put aside as he was completing other projects. Bekah Cox came to Donovan with song ideas and lyrics that had been waiting for just the right person to put everything together. They found many new doors opening for achieving an entirely new sound, while still holding onto their metal roots. After spending a good deal of time collaboration and deciding what sound they wanted to make their own, the music was heavily influenced by Industrial and Metal music, and that ended up being the perfect sound for the project.
Iconoclast takes the idea of metal and turns it on its head. Taking inspiration from a plethora of darker, Industrial/Metal bands and forgoing the standard boundaries found in these genres, they refused to approach music from a traditional stand point. That type of liberty allows for a vibrant new sound without restrictions.
The music found on the new self-titled LP is like taking a journey through a labyrinth of ever changing paths. Music that is unrelentingly heavy while still finding itself, somber, dark, and introspective. Iconoclast is an entity that has produced music pushing far past effortless imitation and allows the listener to expect the unexpected and to experience music like it should be…the excitement of hearing something they have never heard before.
