Hourglass began in late 2008 when Michael McPherson and his wife Jeanette decided to form a rock/blues band to perform Michael's original songs and selected cover material. They enlisted some supporting musicians and launched the band in early 2009, playing live shows that summer and fall. They decided to make some personnel changes in December of 2009 just prior to a show at the newly opened Oskar Blues in Longmont, CO. They asked the rhythm section from the Blues band "Catapult" to back them up at the show and a little magic happened on stage that resulted in guitarist/vocalist Barry Schmidt, bassist Dennis Boudreau and drummer Greg Cox becoming full time members of Hourglass. Hourglass played many shows for about 18 months until Cox moved on to focus on the blues and the band picked up veteran drummer Jim Trotter. They performed extensively over the next two years at clubs and special events. They found themselves without a drummer once again in the summer of 2013 when Trotter moved on to play in C&W bands. Enter drummer Steve Paulick to the mix at the same time that guitarist Schmidt went on sabbatical to launch his own business. After a little down time to rework song lists and arrangements to bridge the gap until Schmidt returns, they are back stronger than ever with a new sound and energy.
