Forming in 2010, Covela (co-ve'-la) features Sarah Drinkwine on vocals, Jake Boyd on guitars, Jay B Fail on bass, and Christian Fuhrer on drums. They coined their name from the constellation Vela, which is Latin for the sails of a ship. The band's driven, melodic rock sound has been paralleled to Paramore, Jimmy Eat World, Muse, and The Killers. Based in Phoenix, Arizona, Covela hit the local music scene with a captivating live show armed with high energy, catchy hooks, and a polished sound. “Tight as hell, killer show,” says Worth Weaver, guitarist for He Is Legend (Tragic Hero Records). “Outstanding song writing, these guys are the real deal,” comments Rachel Fuhrer, drummer of Austin based rockers, Ume (Modern Outsider Records). “I LOVE this band!” proclaims Sylvia Massy, producer/engineer (Tool, System of a Down, Red Hot Chili Peppers).
Covela's passion for music and people is apparent. "We play music, love life, and are determined to make a difference," says Drinkwine. "What's most important to me is writing songs that have meaning and purpose. There is power behind lyrics that teach and inspire. They serve as a catalyst to influence people to live higher than themselves. Listeners are constantly barraged with negative messages. But we have a message too; a message that goes against the grain." Clearly, the band is driven and has something to say.
With demand from an ever-growing fan base and an extensive catalogue of road- tested material, Covela released a self-titled EP in February, 2011. Shortly off the heels of the successful EP campaign, the band hit the studio to begin recording their first full length record, “Just Like Ivan,” which is set to release in September, 2012.
