Fort Worth native Kate Hearne is a 24-year-old guitar ‘slinger-songwriter’ who’s been making a name for herself since she picked up the guitar during spring break of her eighth-grade year. As notable Texas musician and producer Lloyd Maines has said of Kate Hearne, “I don’t mind when she steals my licks, but it ticks me off when she plays them better than I do.”
The daughter of performing songwriter Lindy Hearne, Kate Hearne grew up surrounded by songwriters and guitars. In her younger years though, she refused to have anything to do with music making. One day when no one was looking or listening she made the fateful choice, picked up a guitar, and discovered a new way to express herself. With added guidance from famed guitar instructor John DeFoore of Mineola, Texas (a la Miranda Lambert, Kacey Musgraves, Michelle Shocked and Adam Carroll to namedrop a few former students), Hearne began to take her songwriting and guitar studies even more seriously. At the young age of 18, she was one of 12 semi-finalists in the 20th Annual B.W. Stevenson Memorial Singer Songwriting competition hosted at Poor David's Pub in Dallas.
A multi-award-winning instrumentalist, Kate Hearne has opened for Kacey Musgraves, Terri Hendrix with Lloyd Maines, Sara Hickman and more. This past March she accompanied Texas singer-songwriter Vanessa Peters on a two-week European tour. In May 2013, Hearne graduated with a Commercial Music degree from South Plains College in Levelland, Texas.
Kate is currently living in Fort Worth, Texas playing gigs in the DFW area on a regular basis. Check her calendar for more information.
