Jessica Benini is a Canadian West Coast Singer Songwriter, beginning her journey as an acoustic guitarist at age 9. Jessica is a captivating performer with her energetic personality, soulful melodies, rhythmic guitar and spontaneous harmonica solos.
A graduate from Rosebud School of the Arts in Rosebud, Alberta, Jessica trained as actor and musician for the stage. Being a musician for Rosebud Theatre enabled her to develop her voice and guitar styles by performing a variety of genres of music such as; Musical Theatre, English and Irish Folk music, Pop, Bluegrass, Country, Roots and Gospel. She was selected among 50 other artists around the world to participate in the Canadian National Voice Intensive at UBC in Vancouver and also spent time in London, Latvia, and New York taking workshops and preparing herself to be an authentic performing artist.
Jessica was selected to perform at the Medicine Hat Folk Festival Songwriters Showcase and 15 Minutes of Fame Music Festival in Rosebud. She entered the Vancouver Island Songwriting Contest for the Islands Folk Festival in 2010 and was awarded 3rd place out of 100 entrants. She has since performed and hosted for two more years at the festival. In June 2011 Jessica was the featured artist at Broadway Sessions at the Ha! Comedy Club in Times Square, NYC and is a reoccurring guest artist for the New Canaan Dance Academy at the Palace Theatre in Stamford, Connecticut. Jessica was nominated for the “Best Live Act” category for the 2012 Vancouver Island Music. She is also the founder and original host for the Marina Coffee House Open Mic as well as the 1440 Open Mic for the annual Music Festival in Rosebud, Alberta. One of Jessica’s favourite gigs is teaching. She is a voice, guitar and songwriting instructor at Larsen School of Music, where she is able to guide her students through their own practice of being an authentic and genuine performer.
Jessica released her first album “Express Yourself” in 2010, a collection of songs that reflect the journey of self-discovery and encourage the continuation of chasing the unattainable. She has recently completed her second album, which was recorded at Hipposonic, Profile and Mushroom Studios in Vancouver. “No Regrets” showcases the freedom alongside the challenges of taking the road less travelled.
Jessica Benini is a transparent artist and observing soul that comes alive when she plays her heart out. She loves the Island life how gently everything moves and breathes. Being a musician on Vancouver Island, Jessica feels understood, free, playful and inspired. Her main goal and practice in life is to play publicly without apology.
