Hailing from Chicago's west side in the South Austin neighborhood, Lyrical T.H.R.E.A.T™ grew up amidst heavy gangbanging & drug activity. But he says: "I dwell in the ghetto, but the ghetto does not dwell in me." His music reflects this, when listening to him you hear many sociopolitical & musical influences. He started rhyming at the age of 7, although he says "I've been able to rhyme as long as I've been able to speak". He says "When I started rhyming, I was just to myself, it was an escape for me. I would go out where they would have ciphers & just observe. I didn't have what it took to spit with the elders yet." At the age of 12 he regularly battled guys twice age, defeating anyone who dared to challenge him. "Back then I don't think I was really better than those guys, they just underestimated me because I was a kid." He & his crew honed their skills at various talent shows, even sneaking into spots while under-aged for battles & performances "sometimes I think I was more driven then than now! (laughs) That's something I tell guys in my crew always keep your dreams as big as that of a child." On the contrary, Lyrical T.H.R.E.A.T™ wants to bring an adult premise to hip hop. "Hip Hop is supposed to be a rebellious, progressive music, but everything is so one dimensional & controlled you can't really call it Hip Hop. I'm still waiting on the first 'Going Into Labor' song from a female rap artist! (laughs)" His goal is to take everyday situations & make humorous creative songs out of them in order to touch the listener in a personal & profound way. He's just getting started. Watch out, there's more to come.
