In year one after the prophesised end of the world people continue on, rubbing their eyes in disbelief whilst a band packs a whole series of proposals and messages for modern times in their luggage to go on a journey turning towards the sun. YEN boldly invite all of humanity to accompany them on their journey "Into the Sun" with varied guitars, mood enhancing grooves and the charismatic voice of their singer who has Asian roots.
The quartet, named after their front woman Yen-Hwei Bella, delivers a musical soundtrack which is a collection of anthems for take-off, songs for perseverance and music you can depend on. And the required munition for everything in between.
Experience a taster from the upcoming third YEN album “Into the Sun” available from 25 January 2013 with their single "Redemption", released on 11 January 2013.
"There is a lot of everything in this song: liberation, revolution, love, salvation and the search for a new consciousness for a better world. These are the themes which we explored in this album", the band from Heidelberg said. YEN don't promise world peace, they also don't resolve all schools of thought, they are a German band who simply prove that music can connect people without solely relying on the lowest common denominator.
Ambition that's catching: shortly before the release of their first album "Deep Inside", Yen was invited by no other than Stefan Rabb to perform on the "SSDSDSS...show" in front of an audience of millions. Even then he said that she had a good chance of winning the public's favour. What is much more important is the popularity YEN has received in the years since their debut album: in concert halls and clubs but also on the street.
They brought their music to the people in pedestrian zones and urban beaches through the whole of Germany merely accompanied by acoustic instruments using a specially modified sofa, enabling YEN to now occupy a niche which is rarely seen in Germany. Rock and pop music on the street! Their payback for the many reprimands and fines from the authorities was thousands of new fans and inspiration for their second album "Sofa - so good", a flawless acoustic album which incorporates the experiences and amusement of this particular special time.
With their third album the musicians win over the audience with sounds that paint pictures and diverse vocals which create a varied palette of feelings even within individual songs. With lyrics so personal there's something for everyone and everyone can see their own big picture. If you want you can hear Skin from Skunk Anansie here. Or Björk. Or a musical pinch of Silbermond. Or you could stop pigeonholing things and close your eyes instead. What do you hear and feel then? This band is something special! Inconspicuous but omnipresent. At the end of the day it's really just music but the sound that YEN sends on its journey doesn't fade away with the last note. YEN invites you to escape for a while with exciting melodies, appreciable energy and an overwhelming sense of detail. To escape from the treadmill. They prefer to send their fans on an emotional journey through the normally craziness of life out there and back again to themselves.
You could almost even pigeonhole it:
YEN makes music for everyone and everybody, but by no means optional...
