Olivia Frances / Bio

Olivia Frances is a 19-year-old singer-songwriter with a sunny disposition. Wisdom shines through her folky pop-country musical creations, which is obvious to listeners of her latest project called #SingleSteps, a monthly release project of six new singles over the course of six months, which serves as a follow-up to her 2013 debut album Back To Happiness.

Originally from Cincinnati and soon attending Clark University just outside of Boston, Olivia is dedicated to her craft and hones her skills with disciplined daily practice, performing live on her #SingleSteps tour, and writing fresh material for her next album release this fall. She draws her musical inspiration from individual songs such as Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love” and Carolina Liars’ “Show Me What I’m Looking For.” Last year, Olivia’s single “Back To Happiness” was awarded Best Pop Song of 2014 at the Ohio Music Awards, and her song “Seasons Grow On” was recently featured in a documentary about the famous Cincinnati Music Hall (a place near and dear to Olivia’s heart) produced by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Melissa Godoy.

Taking a gap year in Nashville following her high school graduation enabled Olivia to focus on her distinctive blend of catchy pop melodies and the storytelling aspect of country music. She has graced the stages of some of Nashville’s most popular songwriter venues including the famous Bluebird Café and the Commodore Grille. She was also interviewed by Nashville Public Radio on the topic of musicians’ use of social media. The story went national and aired on National Public Radio in May 2015.

A member of the prestigious Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) since the age of 12, Olivia’s time in Nashville allowed her to fully immerse herself in all that the songwriting organization has to offer its members, including the opportunity to co-write with songwriters like Billy Lee (“The One” by Gary Allan) and to pitch her music to heavy-hitting music publishers such as Warner/Chappell Music. Never one to shy away from hard work, Olivia spent time working and learning about the business side of the music industry as an intern for a Nashville-based punk rock record label.

Although Olivia did not grow up with musical parents, she credits her mother and father for shaping her into the hardworking and inquisitive young woman she is today. She began playing piano at age six and at age twelve she developed a passion for guitar and songwriting. By the time she was in the 8th grade Olivia was taking vocal lessons at the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music. While in high school she interned at North America’s oldest continuously operating summer opera company, the Chautauqua Opera, where she assisted with the production of two operas.

The infectious positive energy Olivia and her music exude is celebrated by her growing fan club known as “Frances Fans.” Loyal fans and new listeners alike can keep up with Olivia’s next album release (due out this fall) and her fall 2015 tour of the East Coast at www.oliviafrancesmusic.com.
