W.E.S. is a producer with a unique sound who is able to create music to fit any mood and situation from jazz, hip hop, rock, classical, ambient, world or techno. His ability to compose and perform music comes from a raw ability to hear and recall the many colors of music and to apply them to any situation. He has refined this ability through many years of performing in a variety of genres and through his many years of formal education. William E. Smith holds a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology and degrees in jazz composition and jazz studies. Smith also taught college courses in jazz history, rock history, world music, music industry, music technology.
As a composer and producer W.E.S. has produced an album for Orpheus/EMI H2Pro Records recording artist Monique Miller and has composed, produced, engineered and mixed his own projects with his group The W.E.S. Group. He has also composed music for documentaries and film. These include music for a PBS documentary and several independent films:
