In late 2009, after discussing an idea with several co-workers, Jake Milam, former drummer, formed an alternative hard rock music group (initially going under the name of "Children of the Phoenix"). Those co-workers included current lead/rhythm guitarist William Angara and former lead vocalist Mike Garcia. It wasn't until a few months after the initial formation of the band that Alex Clara, current bassist, joined the band, renamed The Improvised Explosive Device. Needing to undergo a line-up change to compliment the unique and aggressive musical direction of the band, Mike Garcia was replaced a year later with current lead vocalist Ann Miller. Most recently, in October of 2015, Nick Caprino (A.K.A. Nicky Navarro) replaced former percussionist Jake Milam, and the band re-emerged a shorter, fresher version of itself: Exxplosive Device.
Since then, from playing in local bars (such as "The Venice Bistro" in Venice Beach and "The Tobacco Lounge" in Riverside) to performing in world-famous venues (such as "The Whisky-a-Go-Go," "The Key Club," and "The House of Blues" - all on the Sunset Strip), the band continues to make tremendous strides in staking their territory and mark in today's popular rock culture.
