Shantelle Chaytor is a bright & bubbly, country-singing, song writing, animal-loving girl. She loves her sled dogs and music more than anything else in life. For over thirteen years, Shantelle has achieved a great deal in her music career, finishing 3 demo CDs, touring Canada several times, and performing at over 200 venues. Recently, she has performed at the Big Valley Jamboree and on the Telus Stage of Edmonton’s K-Days (formerly Capital Ex). Shantelle is pursuing her dream to become a country singer and share her music with everyone. She has a strong mind, supports fellow musicians in their pursuits, and is full of positive energy. When she walks on stage and bursts into song, she is in her element.
In 2012, Shantelle joined forces with Oliver Bilodeau and Jen Parchen to form a band. Oliver plays the guitar and dabbles in song-writing, while Jen, a long-time friend from the same community as Shantelle, plays drums. Together, the trio recently won free studio time to record a demo of “You’re Gone.”
As a songwriter, Shantelle has always had a knack for writing. She wrote her first song at the age 10, and continues to write her own lyrics, occasionally collaborating with Oliver. Shantelle’s inspiration comes from many different genres of music; her motto is that “good music is good music whether its country, rock, hip-hop, pop, soft rock, or alternative.” Her influences include Miranda Lambert, Michelle Branch, AC/DC, Shania Twain, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, and even some classics from the 80s such as Roxette and Heart. In addition to her natural talent in song writing, Shantelle is self-taught on her ‘39 Gibson Classic guitar, which she has played for five years. Despite her skill, she’ll occasionally get an impromptu guitar lesson from Oliver (who laughs at her silly techniques).
Shantelle is always grateful of fan support, and is always looking for ways to give back to the community. She supports many charities, especially animal rescues. Shantelle loves to volunteer her time to rescue and foster homeless dogs in need, but she especially has a soft spot for huskies. Not only does Shantelle love to take care of dogs, but she also loves the sport of dogsledding. Despite the time that Shantelle dedicates to taking care of her 30 dogs, she always has time to practice her singing. Her dogs provide an audience to practice in front of, and she will routinely serenade her canine companions by belting out songs from AC/DC to Miranda Lambert, and even Flo Rida.
Known to wow her audience when she starts to sing country classic “Cowboy Sweetheart” and yodel her heart out, it’s hard to doubt Shantelle’s universal appeal. Shantelle has received rave reviews with artists whom she has performed with. After performing with Shania TWIN at K-Days, Shania invited Shantelle up on stage to perform a song with her band, declaring to the audience that they “had to hear [Shantelle’s] voice.” As Sue from Alberta Country Link puts it, “Shantelle is a MUST SEE artist!”
Undoubtedly, Shantelle will continue to make her mark in country music and with the help of her good friends and fellow band mates, Oliver and Jen. Together, they will continue to pursue their dreams of making music for the world to hear.
