Lisa grew up in a small Tennessee town, just outside of Nashville. She was listening to country music at an early age, but her musical interests quickly expanded to pop rock, hard rock, alternative, progressive, and new wave. “My mother was a rocker! You would never know it by looking at her, as she was a mild mannered, sweet southern lady. She love-love-loved The Beatles, The Doors, Aerosmith, Nirvana, and Pearl Jam. We would go to concerts together and run over each other trying to touch Eddie Vedder!”
Lisa sang in church choirs and college musicals, and eventually started fronting cover bands. She had always been writing music, and decided to take her music more seriously while taking care of her mother after she was diagnosed with a terminal illness. “It was during those months of taking care of my Mom, that I realized that each day, each moment, and every breath is precious. She inspired me to pursue my music with passion.”
Lisa’s debut CD, “Brand New Sun” is the latest testimony of her decision to engage her artistic side. All of the songs were written or co-written by Lisa, offering courageously honest lyrics containing hard-won insights gained during the course of her personal journey. Her music is textured, kinetic, melodic and fresh, with a pop-rock vibe akin to U2, The Verve, Sarah MacLachlan, Aimee Mann and other alternative artists. Recorded in Nashville at various studios over the span of 18 months, “Brand New Sun” was produced by Paul Nielsen along with local luminaries Paul Taylor and Chip Martin, the three of whom share the guitar and keyboard credits. A stellar lineup of backing musicians also contributed to the project, including Tony Morra and Derek Mixon (drums), Glen Snow (bass), Mark T. Jordan (keys) and Jon Conley (slide guitar).
