Bone crunching power! Earsplitting volume! These are the musical approaches of up-and-coming rock guitarist/songwriter Tommy Phoenix. “I was weaned on Cream and Steppenwolf albums,” the guitarist jokes while talking about his musical upbringing. Growing up with a love for blues, high-energy rock, and loud obscene noises, the young guitarist has worked for years to develop his particular style. “I have really broad musical interests, and I think most people today do to. The trick for me has been to make any music I play sound like me. It can be hard, but at the least I can always settle on my guitar tone and style. No matter what I play, it always seems to have some common feel to it.”
He started learning guitar in high school and joined his first band with fellow classmates. “We never went anywhere and I think we only played together once, but it got me hooked into playing with other people.” Tommy played with other local bands around mid-Ohio including Sensors Array and Devil Dawgs. After high school he took a two year break from music to serve an LDS mission in Sacramento, California.
After returning from the mission field, Tommy Phoenix began attending Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah where he currently majors in Business Management.
Currently, Tommy is engaged in the country rock band Ember Ridge in addition to his solo work.
