Nate Jarrell / Bio

San Diego based jazz guitarist Nate Jarrell can be seen performing at venues throughout the Southern California area in formats ranging from solo guitar to larger jazz ensembles. His new recording, The Next Chapter, showcases Nate's talents as both a composer and improvisor with both vibrant original compositions as well as unique arrangements of jazz classics by Thelonious Monk, Steve Swallow, and Charlie Haden. With a sound and style that features a blend of modern influences with a healthy respect for the jazz tradition, his performances are always full of energy and spontaneity. Nate can currently be seen with his own jazz groups, as well as with Duo LaRe (featuring mandolinist Chris Acquavella), jazz vocalist Tokeli, The Off and On Ensemble, and numerous others. He holds a master's degree in jazz studies from San Diego State University where he studied privately with pianist Rick Helzer and guitarist Bob Boss. In addition to his work as a performer, Nate is an active music educator. He is an adjunct faculty member and guitar instructor at Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, California. He is also the Assistant Director of the west coast campuses of the National Guitar Workshop and directs jazz ensembles and teaches music theory at Canyon Crest Academy High School in the San Diego area.
