Too funky for folk and too folky for funk - that's Sonic Delusion's Latin-infused, pop-laced "funky electroacoustic folk". Blending layers of rhythm, tone and vocals on his well-worn loop pedal, Swiss-Kiwi electro-folk raconteur Sonic Delusion “easily carves out his own unapologetically ambitious and intriguingly experimental sound” (NZ Musician, 2014).
New Plymouth-based Sonic Delusion are releasing their third album Without Warning on the 4th September 2015. The new album, featuring band members Missie Moffat (vocals, percussion) and Severin Thiebaut (keys, bass) stays true to Sonic Delusion’s trademark dynamic, toe-tapping songs with their uplifting lyrics and atmospheric joy. Co-produced by Wellington's esteemed Dr Lee Prebble, the independently released album was partly-funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign which sold deluxe house concerts to fans in New Plymouth and Zurich.
A freshly-minted half-Kiwi (granted citizenship in February), frontman Andre Manella is known for his unorthodox gig venues - in 2013 he toured NZ playing concerts from the purpose-built stage on the roof of the family’s housebus. The bus is now parked up in New Plymouth; home to Andre, his wife Renee and their two fantastic kids.
