Rochester Slim naturally hails from that great upstate New York city along the shores of Lake Ontario. Many years ago he set out on a path that has taken him to many places around the world through an eclectic variety of occupations.
In the early 1970s, Slim was a founding member of The Green Bay Pickers and The Curbside Mutterers, two Potsdam, New York bands that gained numerous fans to their street performances. Since that time, he has pursued a solo career.
In the early 1990s, Slim began writing songs and recording them on a 4 track cassette recorder.
These days, Slim is enjoying his time in San Diego. Many of his newest songs pertain to his new life on the West Coast.
Slim records in a spare bedroom in his home. The mainstay of his modest system is a Boss BR1600 digital recorder. Most songs begin with a track played on his trusty Guild guitar, which he's had since the late 1970s, though he now dabbles in software - mainly Reason. He also uses a Fender Stratocaster, an Ovation acoustic, an Epiphone banjo, a Fender mandolin, a cheap Chinese accordion, an old Boss DR5 rhythm machine, Vintage Keys and Casio keyboards, plus numerous harmonicas and just about anything else that can make an interesting sound.
