Christopher D. Lewis is The Welsh Contemporary Harpsichordist and is currently based in San Francisco, California. Born in Rhiwbina, Wales and moved to North America to study music at McGill University, Montreal Quebec in 2005 under the guidance of harpsichordists Luc Beausejour & Hank Knox. In 2009 he became the first person ever at the Schulich School of Music to obtain a degree in contemporary harpsichord music. He is currently pursuing his MM (Masters in Performance) at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music under the guidance of Corey Jamason. As a recording artist his debut album "The New Fangled Clavier" was released through the New Mix Music label in 2010. The CD is available on this site and other major sites such as Amazon(UK, US, CA), CDBaby & Itunes. It featured works commissioned especially for this CD. As a performer he has played across the U.S, Canada & the UK. Mr. Lewis is delighted to be able to perform the most flamboyant, audience pleasing harpsichord music out there be it old or new. As a musicologist his area of expertise is modern harpsichord music and its use throughout the 20th and 21st centuries. Also he has given lectures on this subject, and the pioneers that revived the instrument. To perform contemporary music, historically accurately, many of his performances are on his own large Eric Herz 'Revival' Style instrument.Past and future projects include collaborations and performances with American Bach Soloists, The Bay Area Rainbow Symphony, Ensemble Parallele and The San Francisco Conservatory of Music's New Music Ensemble. In 2012 he performed the Californian premiere of Philip Glass's monumental harpsichord concerto in San Francisco.
