The Lewis Hamilton Band / Bio

Since their formation in August 2010 The Lewis Hamilton Band have been booked for over 600 shows from Shetland to Slovenia, and have appeared at most of the UK’s biggest blues festivals, including Main Stage performances at Hebden Bridge and Maryport. As a guitarist Lewis pays tribute to some of the greatest musicians of the 20th century, taking influence from people like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix and Rory Gallagher. He also incorporates playing styles from more modern blues-rock musicians such as, Joe Bonamassa, Derek Trucks and Matt Scofield. As a vocalist he has developed his own unique and powerful style of singing, while taking influence from the likes of Joe Cocker and Dave Mathews.
His debut album Gambling Machine won the Scottish New Music Award for Scottish Jazz/Blues album of the year for 2012. Candlelight & Sympathy from 2nd album Empty Roads features on the soundtrack of the feature film Scar Tissue. The title track was chosen to be the theme tune for a prime time BBC1 programme, 'The Mart'. His third album Ghost Train has had numerous top reviews and acclaim from magazines and websites worldwide, and airplay in over 20 countries, and received airplay and a special mention from ‘Whispering’ Bob Harris on BBC R2.
In addition to his previous nominations in the 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 British Blues Awards and receiving two preliminary nominations in their song-writing category, Lewis was nominated as BEST YOUNG ARTIST yet again in 2016. His 4th studio album Shipwrecked which was released in November 2015 has had stunning reviews, has been chosen as an ‘Album of the Month’ by the Independent Blues Broadcasters Association (IBBA) and has been played by Paul Jones on BBC R2, along with receiving airplay world-wide.
Lewis has performed with such notable musicians as Aynsley Lister (for whom he filled in vocals at a live show), Ryan McGarvey, Henrik Freischlader, Alan Nimmo, Chantel McGregor and Ben Poole. He also has a considerable talent for recording, and runs his own studio, where all his music is written, recorded, produced, mixed and mastered by Lewis himself.
Three years ago, Lewis released on his own label the critically acclaimed three volume series of Scottish Blues, Jock’s Juke Joint, featuring Lewis’ own tracks and those of another 50 Scottish blues artists. The series has also received a high level of coverage in the international blues scene with airplay from more than seventy radio shows across a dozen countries and prominent reviews in all the leading UK blues/roots publications, plus several others in North America and Europe. The second volume of the series was nominated as best album in the British Blues Awards 2013, while the third volume was selected as the first ever album of the month by the Independent Blues Broadcasters’ Association.
Shipwrecked Press:

“This fourth studio album confirms Lewis Hamilton’s status as one of the most innovative and versatile young blues artists in the UK. The tempo is maintained with the aptly titled ‘Iceberg Blues’ given Hamilton’s titanic vocal performance and screaming guitar work”
David Scott (Blues in Britain)
“’Down to the River’ and other self-penned titles go down to applause and with each passing song cementing the bands capabilities and affirming their peer status to the elite rhythm and blues realm. I surely was not the only one in the room who became one of their newest fans.”
Andy (Bearded Radio)
“Lewis Hamilton on Shipwrecked has shown what a talent he is growing into and his name should be on many people’s lips throughout 2016 and beyond”
Liz Aiken (Bluesdoodles)

Philip Vehaege (Keys and Chords)
" Ghost Train is a very strong and varied album that provides some good promotion ..."
Walter Vanheuckelom (Rootstime.BE)
" Lewis Hamilton seems to be a flawless offspring of the North American roots of the blues."
Steve Brown (Rocktimes.DE)
" While he has shown that he can hold his own with any guitarist on the scene, he is so much more. His work is soulful, evoking images in the mind of the listener that one would expect from a man twice his age."
Bill Wilson (Reflections in Blue)
" There are traces in his style of Henrik Freischlader – always looking for a fresh way of presenting the music and not afraid of taking a new direction ‘Ghost Train’ is an always interesting disc ... "
John Hurd (3songsbonn.com)
" This is heartfelt soulful music, just as honest as the day is long in June, and when music has that much integrity, it just has to be good."
Jon Seymour (Firebrand Magazine)
" The music is solid - the trio rocks, sometimes gets funky … Definitely recommended for fans of the genre."
Nathan Nörgel (Wasser-Prawda Magazine)
" Hot Blooded Caledonian Blues - could any music fan refuse? "
Ian Rankin
