Aletia Upstairs is a singer-songwriter in the jazz and chanson tradition with a background in theatre and music from diverse cultures. She regularly performs in cabaret shows.
Following her solo album Possibility which she wrote, composed, recorded, produced and launched in 2006, two new singles, ‘Fall So Far’ and ‘Just Not Good Enough’ were released as Urban Gypsy Singles as well as a video to ‘Fall So Far’. 'Catch Me When I Fall' is the latest edition to her repertoire and an EP will follow shortly.
In the UK she has performed as singersongwriter, cabaretist and with her Jazz trio at The Pigalle Club, The Pheasantry, Leicester Square Theatre, Jermyn Street Theatre, The Hot August Fringe at The Royal Vauxhall Tavern, The Battersea Barge, The Bowery, Black's, Miss Q’s, The Wilmington Arms, The Edge, Vinopolis, PJ’s and Arts Cellar Club.
As a graduate from the prestigious Cabaret Conference at Yale she has entertained audiences in Italy, Germany, Korea, Japan, Poland, Portugal, Quatar, South Africa and the US.
Her music has regular airplay on Fine Music Radio SA and Jazz FM UK. From the album Possibility, ‘Too Sober’ has been described as “a cautionary Vegas lounge haunt” and African Girl, “a noir-jazz hit.”
Aletia has been described as a breath of fresh air to the music industry, an exciting artist who is both compelling and truly spectacular.
