Mala Waldron / Bio

Jazz/Soul recording artist, Mala Waldron loves the connection she feels with her audiences. She tries to convey that same live dynamic in her recordings. Her first featured release was “He's My Father,” a duo with her dad, jazz pianist/composer, Mal Waldron, followed by “Lullabye,” her solo debut. Her first U.S. release, “Always There,” made JazzUSA's list for "Top 20 Jazz CDs of 2006. Mala has toured in France, Belgium, Taiwan, China, Malaysia, Russia, Belarus and Italy (several jazz festivals including Catania Jazz Fest, Corinaldo Jazz Fest.) She has also performed at the Diet Coke Women in Jazz Festival (Jazz at Lincoln Center) where she opened for Patrice Rushen. Mala also enjoys doing vocal workshops and participated in the WBGO Kids Jazz Concert Series.

The Mala Waldron Group (featured on “Always There”) has been performing together since 2002. GUITARIST, STEVE SALERNO is an active performer of both jazz and classical music. He has played with numerous artists including Jaco Pastorius, John Abercrombie, Ray Anderson, Mark Helias, Regina Carter, Randy Brecker and Nat Adderly, Jr. Steve is the Founding Director of the Jazz Program at Stony Brook University. BASSIST, MIMI JONES aka MIRIAM SULLIVAN is a graduate of Music and Performing Arts H.S. and Manhattan School of Music Conservatory. She has toured with the Jazz Ambassador Program to South America and Africa. Her performance credits include work with Wynton Marsalis, Joshua Redman, Rachel Z, Lionel Hampton and Tia Fuller. She recently released her debut CD, “A New Day.” PERCUSSIONIST-"SOUNDRHYTHIUM," MICHAEL T.A. THOMPSON has shared the stage with a variety of artists including Joe McPhee, John Stubblefield, Henry Grimes, Oliver Lake, Roy Campbell, Jr., John Patittucci, and "The Mighty Sparrow." His work can be heard on “Language of Swans” (Drimala Records.) He has producer credits on several projects including “Always There” as well as “Timelessness Frozen in Time” a CD by vocalist, Barbara Sfraga & CSQ (aka "The Timelessness Project.")
