“Reviewed By: Geannine Reid, geanninereid@yahoo.com In 1987, keyboardist and composer Billy Shields recorded his first CD Shieldstone, on Optimism Records, which was produced by Stanley Clarke. Shiledstone reached number 8 on the Billboard Chart category Album of the Year, and number 17 on Billboard for the category of Contemporary Jazz albums. Shieldstone additionally garnered number one on syndicated radio charts. The line up on Shieldstone features some of the top names in jazz today, including Freddie Hubbard, Jack DeJohnette, John Abercrombie, Airto Moreria, Stanley Clarke, Bob Magnusson Roy McCurdy and Gordon Brisker. The success of Shieldstone sparked another opportunity in 1989. The introduction of Shieldstone II was released to the public and again receiving critical acclaim! and mass appeal. Featuring special guest artist, Freddie Hubbard, this collaboration culminated with a video that was aired with avid audience response on VH1. ”
