The late great Townes Van Zandt would have been 71 in March. The Texas troubadour never had a successful album or single on his own, yet his songs were covered by Bob Dylan, Norah Jones, Cowboy Junkies, and The Avett Brothers. March 24 at SOhO, Songwriters At Play pays tribute to Townes with an evening of his folk, blues, and country ballads. Performers include Amber Cross, Ed Gould & Stacy Robin, Steve Kindel, Dennis Russell, Randall Lamb, Steve Werner, James Houlihan, Gary Foshee, Stephanie Croff, Steve Fort, Jeanne Newhall, and Kate Graves. This is the sixth time Songwriters At Play has presented a show at SOhO, after paying tribute to pop stars Jackson Browne, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, Carole King, and Santa Barbara folksinger Randall Lamb. Cover charge is $12; tickets are available at the door. This show is open to all ages. Doors open 6:30, show begins at 7:30pm. To get the best seats, make dinner reservations at 805-962-7776.
