Winter solstice. Longest night of the year. Afraid of the dark? Maybe you should be. The Burning Dirty Band teams up with North Carolina's Viva La Muerte to provide the remedy for yet another bland, badly-sweatered Christmas party. No Bing Crosby or sugar cookies at this shindig, kids. https://www.facebook.com/burningdirtyband https://www.facebook.com/vivalamuertenorthcarolina

Q: What would you say is the main driving force behind Viva La Muerte? Is it a cultural movement or the desire for the creation of intellectual music for enjoyment?

A: Thank you for the question. By seeking the former perhaps we'll find the latter, although sometimes "intellectual" means cerebral, something not of the heart. What we seek is a music of both heart and mind, something original but still felt in the gut, something strange but familiar, new territory on the level of language and music. Will that make us marginal? Maybe. If so, we're happy to live in the land of marginalia...and look forward to seeing you there.
