Kyle Wood / Bio

BREAKING! July 2012: Re-joined Nashville-based bluegrass/newgrass band 'LaTresa and The Signal.' Both "Cry" and "Beg You To Stay" from this album were originally written and performed as newgrass songs with Crucial Smith and will be easy to transition to LaTresa's band.
“Having known Kyle and David (Holladay) from way back in the Crucial Smith days, I always knew that their potential was great...This new CD is making a Prophet out of me. Kyle has matured...into a deep well writer and a unique voice. The album smolders over a wide range of musical territory, and identifies Kyle as an artist to be reckoned with...Congratulations on a superb effort. I love that it's genre-less...and I love that the production is clean and crisp, but mostly I love that it cooks...”
Best Regards from your old friend,
Pat Flynn - guitarist, vocalist and songwriter for New Grass Revival
"Kyle Wood is an incredibly talented mandolin artiste'. His high lonesome vocals are electrifying! Here is a man who has the ability to transform a Beatles’ or a metal song into a totally unique interpretation. I can truly give Kyle my highest recommendation. Ya just got to hear him!"
Ernie Winfrey - Nashville music legend and Paul McCartney & Wings’ engineer for the Nashville Sessions, 1974
"Kyle Wood is, and has always been a great singer and mandolin player. These new songs are "right up my alley" so to speak with a sweet blend of soulful singing, accompanied by acoustic instruments and heart-pounding modern grooves."
John E Cowan - lead singer/bassist for New Grass Revival/ John Cowan Band
The Kyle Wood Project is:
Kyle Wood: Lead and Harmony Vocals; Mandolins
David “Doc” Holladay: Harmony Vocals, Multi-instruments, Engineering, Production
Chance Britton: Drums
Steve Sikes-Nova/Tuxedo Cat Entertainment: Executive Producer & Media Relations, Hampton Roads VA

Kyle Wood (born Ronald Kyle Wood on February 10, 1966 in Nashville, TN) is an American musician primarily known as the mandolin player and co-lead singer for the progressive bluegrass group Crucial Smith. The group released three collections: Crucial Smith (1997), Morning Light (1999), both of which were produced by former New Grass Revival guitarist Pat Flynn, and Nine Lives (2002). A fourth collection remains unreleased. The band appeared at many prominent U.S. music festivals during its run including Telluride, Winterhawk, and The Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas.
Kyle began playing guitar at the age of eleven and took up the mandolin during his college years. He paid part of his college tuition by playing in the recruitment bands of two separate colleges. His first professional work was playing mandolin with country star Eddie Rabbitt. After Crucial Smith disbanded, Wood has been involved in various studio and live projects and has just released his first solo collection of mandolin-driven rock and Americana songs.
