Very few singers have that special sound that sets them apart from the rest. Nikki Shae is one of those artists. She’s got a sound so distinctively her own, combining subtle strength with her signature sweetness that you can only describe as the voice of an angel.
Nikki comes from Caledon, Ontario, Canada; a small town just north of Toronto, where she grew up on a horse farm. She fell in love with music at a very young age and began taking singing lessons, knowing even then that she wanted to sing radio hits. At 11 years-old, she formed a girl group with some friends and wrote all the songs for the group, rehearsing their act during recess at school. Nikki grew up listening to all types of music, always favoring songs with great vocalists. Artists like Mariah Carey and Celine Dion, to Shania Twain and Faith Hill, inspired Nikki to follow her dreams. “I just love beautiful voices; these women moved me and I always dreamed of being one of them one day.”
And boy was she serious. She teamed up with local producers in Toronto and cut some demos that got the attention of some major industry players. She spent the next few years travelling to New York and L.A. working with writers and producers, gaining invaluable experience in the studio and on the stage.
But this wasn’t enough for her as her love of great voices combined with great songwriting continued to grow, thanks to artists like Miranda Lambert and Sara Evans. Nikki decided she wanted to be right in the middle of the Country music scene and so one day on a layover in Charlotte, NC, it clicked; Nikki decided, “I’m moving to Nashville!” And just a few months later she loaded up her car and headed down to Music City, USA not quite sure of what the plan would be when she got there. “But I didn’t care. All I knew was that I had to be there and I trusted that if it was meant to be then it would all work itself out.”
Well it is certainly working out real well. She fell in love with Nashville right away and loved how welcoming the community was. She is constantly blown away by the talent in this city and credits it for pushing her to be her best, and then better. And now Nikki is so proud to be releasing her EP, “Let Me Love You”, on June 9th. It is a reflection of the strides she has made as a true Artist. She’s had the pleasure of working with famed Dolly Parton producer, Kent Wells, along with the who’s who of songwriters and musicians. “I am so lucky to have so many heavy hitters on this record. How did this all happen?!” Nikki beams, always full of gratitude for every person and every experience that has come her way. Nikki will enjoy this summer promoting her record to radio and performing her music on local stages.
When asked what some of the highlights have been for her since moving to Nashville, Nikki says, “Definitely seeing Miranda Lambert in concert; she’s just so good! And bumping into Kellie Pickler at a party was pretty cool too.” She hesitates, then continues, “And of course, there was the time I met Chris Young. I just love his voice!”, Then she giggles, “And yeah, he’s pretty darn cute too.”
Nikki Shae’s now got her sights set on performing at the Grand Ole Opry. And by the sound of it, it’s just a matter of time before this angel is singing to the hearts of all the nation.
