Sorrows / Bio

In the fall of ‘76, The Poppees, one of the seminal Power Pop bands on the New York City’s New Wave/Punk Rock scene came to an end. Drummer Jett Harris and lead guitarist Arthur Alexander left the band and by early winter of ‘77, Arthur’s new band–SORROWS–was already out playing gigs.
The first incarnation of SORROWS lasted only a few months. Arthur dissolved the lineup and called Jett asking him to join the band. Jett asked: ”what’s the concept?”… “ABBA meets Sex Pistols”, Jett’s reply: “I’m in, when do we start?!”. Joey Cola joined soon after on guitar & vocals, with Ricky Street joining last to provide the low end and the 3rd vocal.
Musically, with their roots spanning early rock & roll, rockabilly, through the 60’s Pop and R&B, right into the hard-edged sound of New York City’s New Wave and Punk Rock, SORROWS are all about ‘the song’ - strong melodies, irresistible hooks, fueled by their powerful backbeat and hard driving guitars.
One of the most prominent Power Pop bands of its time. SORROWS went on to score the coveted "major label" record deal leaving behind two critically acclaimed albums and several singles which become highly sought after collector items. That was then, this is now!
