ARTIST, PRODUCER, EDUCATOR
Laura Piece Kelley-Jahn's contribution to Seattle's richly diverse musical scene is beyond prominent. After earning a permanent placement in the archives of Seattle's Experience Music Project Museum, she began yet another collective of musicians known as "Queens Ransom".
Piece has been touring colleges and stages across the country performing excerpts from "Street Smartz: The Story of a True School B-girl". The incredibly talented female producer and songwriter received the Hollywood Music Award for best Hip Hop Artist and Production.
Street Smartz is the soundtrack to Piece's one woman play which represents the perspective of arts and culture in urban America through theater, music, and spoken word. All of the tracks were produced, arranged, composed, and written by Laura Piece, featuring the Queen's Ransom players.
Laura was recently commissioned to write and perform poetry for His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama when he visited Seattle.
She also completed serving her second, 2 year term, as a council appointed Arts Commissioner for the City of Seattle.
By day, Laura Piece teaches music production to teens and creates writing, music workshops, and curriculum specific to the culture of Hip Hop, Jazz, and Spoken Word. Piece is a rare talent on the cutting edge of massive exposure, a musical gift the world has been waiting for.
