The EXPRESS Band, based in Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN, USA, is a fantastic group of talented musicians performing the best of current-to-classic Pop, Rock, & Soul covers.
Initially formed in December 1992, The EXPRESS Band (TEB) began as a 5 piece group - female vocalist, guitar, bass, drums & keys - with a focus on performing classic Motown, Rock, and Pop covers. In early 1993 TEB expanded to a 6 piece band by adding a sax, and also a dedicated sound tech. TEB became well-known locally for its multiple vocalists/exceptional harmonies, for performing songs in rapid order, for spontaneously intertwining parts of different songs together, and for jamming extensively on solo's. In early 2008 and after fifteen great years, half of the band members moved on to other projects and/or other locales, and TEB went on hiatus. This initial group became referred to as Version 1 or "V1" of the band.
In late 2008, TEB reformed with nearly all new members and again as a 5 piece group - female vocalist, bass, two guitars with synths, & drums - and with a new focus on performing '70's & '80's Classic Rock covers. With new members TEB continued it's legacy of multiple vocalists/tight harmonies, and also became known for its use of two guitar synths to simulate the various keyboard-driven sounds of the '80's rock groups. In 2012 and due to an accident/injury, one of the guitar synth members left and was replaced by keys. Around mid 2013, with lack of agreement on direction and dissent among members, the band again went on hiatus. This group became referred to as Version 2 or "V2" of the band.
Currently, EXPRESS officially remains on hiatus, with all past members involved in various other musical projects. The "core" and long-standing members of the group remain to be: Barry Alverman - bass & vocals, Ron Maye - drums & vocals, Craig Hecht - guitar & vocals, Jennifer Usellis - lead vocals & side percussion, Mark Olson - keys & vocals, Tamir Nolley - sax & vocals, and Chuck Burak - sound tech & gear. They are featured in the V1 songs and the video on the bands ReverbNation website.
Barry and Ron have been periodically working on a Version 3 concept of the group - two female vocalists, guitar, bass, drums & keys - with the goal of performing a mix of current-to-classic Pop, Rock, and Soul covers. Stay tuned and more to come!....
