JD and the Longfellows are a harmony-rich, violin-driven, lyrically-energetic - skifflebilly and folk cocktails four piece band! They formed in SE London in 2006 after JD moved from Basingstoke with a desire to produce a musical cocktail of original dynamic folk music and have now played over 250 gigs. They have also recorded three albums. Their most recent is “Swinging for England” (2012). It contains 10 original tracks, some of which could be described as Musical Folk Theatre. As with the live act, there is a vivacious lyrical exchange between joint lead vocalists JD and Clare Portman, while Gemma’s violin playing and string arrangements draw on classical, Celtic, Cajun and Gypsy-Klezmer influences. The band will play a few festivals this summer, and will be touring once again. They will also be releasing a brand new acoustic-based EP and they intend to keep up their reputation to “sweep the place with joy, with their off-the-dial feel-good factor” (Icarus Club) wherever they play in 2013.
