Elizabeth McQueen’s singing h a s been equated to hearing “Etta James and Loretta Lynn spliced in honey” During her 10 year residence in Austin, McQueen has distinguished herself as a true musical force, releasing two solo records -- " The Fresh Up Club” on her own Gravitron Label (2003) and “Happy Doing What We’re Doing ,” released on Freedom records (2005). In 2005 she joined the legendary Western Swing Band Asleep as the Wheel as their female vocalist. Most recently she appeared on their latest record “Willie and the Wheel,” as Willie Nelson’s duet partner.
Elizabeth’s latest effort has her exploring the more jazz and swing influenced sides of roots music. “For the last several years, I’ve been pretty deep into female vocalists from the mid 20th century. Ella Fitzgerald, Betty Carter, Nina Simone and Peggy Lee – these women are where it’s at. So much of what I was writing tended that way. It seemed very natural to make this record.”
