Bon Ton Key Club / Bio

Welcome friends and colleagues. I am working on some new material and experimenting with new ideas for the next new set of tracks. I am really concentrating on developing a personal approach to my music.....working on staying unique and "outside the box" It is hard not to sound like something else that everyone has already heard, so I try different styles of arranging, mixtures of sounds and genres, and anything else I can throw in that mixes well with the overall sound and direction.

The name of my project comes from my early days as a young musician, hanging out in front of the local clubs and listening to the nightlife, which usually consisted of country bands, and some rock groups. One restaurant in my hometown, called the Bon Ton Cafe, was host to many bands that I eventually would drop in on when I was in college and sit in with the band. Being too young to stay in the bar, I waited out in the coffee shop until I could get on stage. In Bend, Oregon, I attended college and played country in the local bars, and jazz at the Inn Of The Seventh Mountain and Sunriver. Eventually, I majored in music at the University of Oregon, and continued the same pattern until I graduated and joined a band (Small Wonder) that traveled around the western U.S. and Canada playing country, disco, and then rock. In 1982, while teaching music at two high schools, I became the keyboardist for The Control Boys, and continued my quest. The band came to an end in 1984, and I have been playing on and off in various bands while beginning my own project as Bon Ton Key Club.

Thank you so much for coming by and taking time to hang with me and my music...Rich D.
