Charlie was delivered by emergency caesarean at QA Hospital, Portsmouth on the 18th April 2012. Following complications Charlie was born not breathing and it took approximately 13 minutes to resuscitate him. He was full term and weighed a healthy 8.5lbs, unfortunately he suffered wide spread brain damage and we were told he was unlikely to survive, luckily Charlie had other ideas and wanted everyone to see his cheeky personality from birth. The staff at NICU did a fantastic job in looking after Charlie, who spent 19 days in total on the ward.
Now age four, Charlie has a diagnosis of quadriplegic cerebral palsy, epilepsy and is registered blind. He cannot sit, stand, or walk but continues to be cheeky and has a passion for life. He has a massive love for the water, and benefits massively from hydro-therapy. Unfortunately local swimming pools are just to cold for him, they have a lovely hydro pool at his school but there are a lot of children using it on a rota basis. We have a summer house that we would love to be able to get a hydro-pool/hot tub for Charlie to enable him to use all the time. We would love to make this room into a multi-sensory room for Charlie and be able to carry out his physio in a way that makes him smile.
