OF THE SUN / Bio

The experimental metal collective Of The Sun was conceived by TJ Bailey (drums), David Duvall (bass, vocals), and Patrick Duvall (lead vocals, guitar) in September of 2009 in Myrtle Beach, SC upon completion of their 12-song debut album AM Radio. After undergoing an 18-month hiatus -during which time Bailey stood in to help the ailing thrash metal outfit The Classic Struggle, the Duvall brothers relocated to Austin, TX, and Russell Cochrane stepped in to join as accompanying guitarist- the members in Of The Sun reconvened in Texas and have emerged onto the vibrant music scene of Austin before an eagerly awaiting crowd, as well as to an electrifying reception. More of a force than a band in their presentation, as well as their songwriting, Of The Sun indulges in the fearlessness of musical creation without limits, all while managing to set themselves apart from the legions of prototypical metal bands and evading black-and-white, genre-specific classification. Drawing from the essential spirit of Jimi Hendrix; the twisted minds of bands like Primus, Psyopus, Behold… The Arctopus, and Sleepytime Gorilla Museum; the vitality inherent in Pantera, Bad Brains, Rage Against The Machine, and Hatesphere; and the dynamic sonic embrace in the songwriting of bands like Tool, Dream Theater, Between The Buried And Me, and Mastodon; the members in Of The Sun strive to understand each element from their own perspective instead of attempting to formulate what’s already been done in order to replicate a sound that’s already been heard.
