Katerina Stamatelos was born in Greece. She holds degrees from The University of Iowa (MA and PhD in composition), Kent State University (MM in piano performance), the Conservatory of Vienna (Piano Teaching Certificate), and the Pireus Association (Piano Soloist Diploma).
Her compositions have been performed at the Midwestern Composers’ Symposiums of 2006, 1998, and 1997 at: The University of Iowa, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Oberlin College, in Athens, and Thessaloniki.
Her most recent compositions have been premiered at: The SoundSCAPE Festival 2009 (Pavia, Italy), The International Saxophone Symposium 2010 (George Mason University, USA), and The Flamingo International New Music Festival 2010 (Florida, USA). Her recently commissioned work (the song cycle "Love and Terror") was premiered at the University of Iowa (March 6th, 2010) and is soon to be released on CD.
As a pianist she has performed in Greece, Austria, Germany, the United States, and Canada. She has appeared as a soloist with all major orchestras of Greece and on National Radio and TV.
She is an elected member of the Pi Kappa Lambda Society, and ASCAP (American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers).
