7th Ascent / Bio

For the female-fronted, Minneapolis-based quartet known as 7th Ascent, making music that transcends the recording studio is no simple feat. However, it is a task the group boldly took on more than five years ago. Since then, they have blazed an indestructible path through the Twin Cities that has even the most famous of rock stars singing their praise. Still reeling from the high of releasing their first full-length, self-titled record, 7th Ascent is an unstoppable force sweeping across the Midwest.

"Music to us isn't a hobby. It's not something to pass the time,” vocalist Ryanne Noelle said. “Music is like the air we breathe, the water we drink. It keeps us living, keeps us motivated, it keeps us striving to inspire those who listen.”

Emerging from humble musical backgrounds, each of the four members of 7th Ascent has a personal connection that is evident in the music they create. Finding their creative niches early in life, Ryanne Noelle, Aaron Schutz, Jason Michael and Evan Stueve bring a collaborative sound to the Twin Cities’ modern, progressive rock scene that is unlike anything else.

“I wouldn’t have worked with these guys and been with them so long if I didn’t think they would go all the way,” said producer James “Fluff” Harley (Quietdrive, Prince, Clay Aiken).

Incorporating aggressive yet professionally polished vocals, heavy guitars and a booming drums section, the group brings to the stage a commercially marketable sound that has been perfected in and out of the studio. Since their inception, their talents have been showcased alongside local heavy hitters Throw The Fight and Three Pill Morning, as well as nationally touring bands Puddle of Mudd, Evan’s Blue, Scarlet Haze, and We Are the Fallen (former Evanescence members). Taking advantage of having a powerhouse leading lady steering the band’s direction, 7th Ascent is not easily comparable, as they are destined to become compared to.

“These guys (are a) sick rock band with a badass chick vocalist,” said Jacoby Shaddix, lead singer of Papa Roach. “

In November, the group debuted their first full-length record, 7th Ascent, mastered by Vlado Meller (Metallica, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Rolling Stones), to a packed house at the Fine Line Music Cafe in downtown Minneapolis. The highly-anticipated show brought fans out in droves to the legendary venue which sent the record flying off merch stands. With the release of the first single “American Idolatry,” 7th Ascent showcase their musical maturity and bravery to write controversial lyrics outside the cookie-cutter box that is today’s mainstream music.

“I think people are going to be blown away by the songwriting on the new album,” bassist Jason Michael said. “Some of the old songs have evolved into a whole new creature and the new songs raise the bar even higher.”

Members Ryanne Noelle (vocals), Aaron Schutz (guitar/vocals), Jason Michael (bass), and Evan Stueve (drums) are on a whirlwind rise to the top with no plans on stopping. It is a new era for 7th Ascent, and it is safe to say they are back and better than ever.
