The 3rd Sunday String Band plays predominantly Old Time music -- Appalachian and Midwestern fiddle tunes and songs, as well as a selection of early County, Folk and Bluegrass songs.
The band began about twelve years ago as a once a month jam held by a small group of students from the Old Town School of Folk Music. As time went on, we began meeting weekly to build up a repertoire. Being a very inclusive lot, our numbers soon swelled, and since then the group has included anywhere from ten to fifteen members at a given moment, playing various combinations of fiddles, mandolins, banjos, guitars, upright bass, flutes/whistles, Dobro, harmonica, and keyboards. We currently stand at seven members.
We play a wide variety of events and venues, including farmers market, bars, churches, weddings, and even the occasional square dance. Venues we've played over the years include The Old Town School of Folk Music, the Schubas Acoustic Brunch series, Uncommon Ground, The Rock House, The Garfield Park Conservatory, The Heartland Cafe, C.J. Arthur's, The Grafton Pub, and many more.
Last year we FINALLY released our first CD -- five years in the making. It's currently only available in physical form, but you can hear some of the tracks on our ReverbNation profile.
