Creole / Bio

Born in the eighties in the small, new, market-town of Harlow in Essex, in her early life Creole was raised by her mother, surrounded by the sounds of popular Motown artists of the time; Diana Ross and the Supremes, Etta James, Ray Charles, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye and to a lesser degree introduced to the poignant romance and spirituality of leading reggae and ragga artists like John Holt, Gregory Isaacs and Bob Marley.

Creole first realised her passion and talent for singing in the nineties, aping her then idols, Mary J Blige, Jill Scott, Mariah Carey, Brandy & Angie Stone on her tape-deck/karaoke combo machine!

Since then she has performed alongside Zico & Galak of Ampasound, heavy-hitting dub/jungle duo Hylu & Jago and featured on Alabama 3's critically acclaimed "Shoplifting for Jesus". In studio sessions with prolific producers such as Formula, Philly Driven, Eric Electric, Sleepy Time Ghost and Jahtari she has honed her own unique blend of roots reggae, neo-soul inflected dubby grime.

Studying Creative Writing and the Arts in both England and the U.S. Creole’s lyrics are poetic and literary; a dedicated socialist she tackles the hardships and trials of life in multicultural London. Having had no formal vocal training Creole’s singing style is raw and untouched.
