The Door Opening Kenzies were formed completely by accident in the spring of 2009. What started out as some bass guitar lessons led to the most diverse cover band that Lancaster has to offer. Matt started teaching his cousin Mike how to play the bass purely because Mike was looking for a new hobby. What transpired over the next couple of weeks, led to the creation of The Door Opening Kenzies. One night, when Matt was supposed to work with Mike, Mike asked him if it would be cool if his brother Jared could come jam as well. Matt and Jared had jammed together back in high school so Matt was totally down with a little jam session in the basement of his Sells Rd. apartment. After that jam session was over, they all decided to do it again the following week. A few days later, Matt received a phone call from an old friend he hadn't heard from in years. Matt invited him to the next jam session. The jam session that next week was a lot of fun, and everyone decided that it would be a good idea to continue playing together and see where it could go, and just like that The Door Opening Kenzies were formed. The lineup included Matt Dennis as lead singer and rhythm guitar, Brent Gothard as lead guitar, Mike Warthman as bass guitar, and Jared Warthman as drummer. They continued playing together for the next several months. Eventually they took a hiatus. In the fall of 2010 there was talk about getting back together but Brent decided he didn't want to play, so the idea was pitched to teach Taylor how to play the guitar, as it would also give the band more vocal depth. Matt began instructing him in October of 2010 and by January of 2011 The Door Opening Kenzies played their first performance in almost 2 years, with the lineup of Matt, Taylor, Mike and Jared. They have continued playing together and improving, while paying their dues in the form of small acoustic gigs and open mics. In October of 2011 they played their first paid gig at the Orange Carpet Lounge in Lancaster, Ohio. In January of 2012, Mike left the band due to personal reasons and we wish him the best!! Our good friend Kyle Hicks, who had played with Matt and Jared previously (not to mention been to every single gig the DOK had done at that point) dusted off his old bass and has been rocking it out ever since! Check out our dates!!
