For the 30-something decorated military war veteran, Penthouse Johnny, getting his voice and message heard, is like a dream come true. After spending 15 years in the Air Force, he started focusing on his music career after he was stationed in Japan. Where he started performing at local clubs and venues, as a opening for some of hip-hop's elite.
Discovering his musical talents at an early age, Penthouse Johnny, born John Knight Jr, taught himself how to play the piano and the acoustic guitar with a fond love for poetry. He fell in love with with hip-hop after listening to Eric B. & Rakim's "Paid In Full".
Penthouse Johnny's musical influences come from such artist as Tupac Shakur, Bob Marley, N.W.A & Outkast. Before concentrating on his musical talents full time, Johnny spent 15 years in the Air Force, where he received the coveted "Purple Heart" for injuries he sustained in combat in Afghanistan. Being able to travel through-out different countries, Johnny was able to see the poor and unfortunate struggle, sometimes worse than in the United States.
"Life has to be more than just, materialism, selling drugs & strip clubs. Our people have more choices than that." Penthouse started the movement SOULJAH, See Others Unappreciated Lives Just Appreciate Happiness. Which is also tattooed in his stomach, like one of his Idols, Tupac Shakur.
Penthouse Johnny is currently gearing up for his mixtape/EP entitled "Purple Heart"; slated for a January 2013 released through his own record label Knight Music Group 2010.
