Born and raised in Detroit MI. Was and art major grade school thru high school. Played cello for 3 years. Switched to guitar at 12 years old. First year of high school played a talent show. Kids went crazy clapping, yelling and dancing. I took a guitar solo and the girls started screeming. Been a guitar played ever since. Started playing gigs around Detroit my senior year of high school and several years after. Sang in a do wop group that backed David Ruffin after he was fired by the Temptations. Came to NYC in 1969. Started playing, singing and writing songs. Played some gigs around NYC. 1971 became Harry Belafontes guitarist. That was my shoe-in to the NYC studio/tour musician scene. Toured and, or recorded with. Harry Belafonte, (Live at the O'Keefe & Turn The World Around) Valeria Simpson, (Valerie Simpson) Ashford& Simpson, (I Wanna Be Selfish) Donny Hathaway, (Extensions of a Man), toured with Marvin Gaye in the fall of 1974, Roberta Flack, (Feel Like Makin' Love) Barry Manilow, (Live) Gil Evans, (Plays Jimi Hendrix) Rahssan Rolan Kirk, (Blackness) Les McCann, (Talk to the People) Charles Earland, (Dynamite Brothers) Yusef Lateef, (Man With The Big Front Yard) Phyllis Hyman, (Legacy of Phyllis Hyman) Judy Collins, (Judy Collins Sings Dylan). And many more records and radio & TV commercials. From Mar 1985 until he passed away Aug 9 2003 I was Gregory Hines' guitarist, brother and friend.
